Had a nice last stroll through Bath this morning before heading out north. The Assembly rooms remained closed for tourists (grumble), but I got some good walking in around the city before heading out up north. Had some fun with the trains; to start, I didn't get a ticket until about five minutes before the train came by because I had been under the mistaken impression that I had purchased one online; then, everyone got kicked out at Chester and shoved onto another (already packed) train which was not planning on stopping at Conwy, where I was going to get off before walking what seemed like a nice distance to Penmaenmawr (English pen'-men-mar, Welsh pen-meye'-en-mah-oor") so we had to request that it stop, and then when it did the doors were only open long enough for us to get near them before they closed and it moved on. This ended up being a good thing, actually, because someone had already requested a stop at Penmaenmawr so I only had to walk five minutes to get to my lodgings. I detoured to the beach and put my feet in the water, which is about the same temperature as the Oregon coast waters. It felt good!
The Welsh coast
After dinner (I got a pizza that labeled itself a margherita but was actually just cheese), my host helped me figure out the bus system up to Pen-y-Pass, where the trailhead for the Snowdon Horseshoe is.
The sunset tonight was beautiful; low clouds made the sun a deep ruddy disk that slowly sank behind an island not far off the coast. It was beautiful to watch.
Sunset in Penmaenmawr
I'm tackling the highest mountain in Wales and four other peaks tomorrow, wish me luck!
