Gear Test: Eagle Creek

Yesterday I tested my hiking gear out on a lovely hike in the Columbia River Gorge. I wore pants, shoes, socks, and a shirt that I will be taking with me to the UK. And it all passed the test! I'll have to be careful descending because the shoes can pinch my heels, but I'm going to a relatively flat country where this shouldn't be a huge problem. The only other issue was my camera, which began to flash the low battery sign shortly after I started off. But at least it takes AAs, so that won't be an issue even if I'm stupid about keeping it charged.

The final test is this post: how difficult is it to (a) type on a seven-inch keyboard, and (b) upload images to the tablet, Dropbox, and this site? The former has proven relatively doable, and hopefully I'll get used to it over the next forty days. The latter, I'll test right now.

LOOK AT ALL THE GREEN

About two miles from the trailhead; I had to sneak off the trail a bit to get an unobstructed view, but it was worth it.

That black opening to the left is the tunnel which takes you right behind the falls. You pop out RIGHT NEXT to it: you could reach out and touch it if you had a death-wish.

This was my favorite shot of the day, at least of the images I took with this camera; I borrowed my mother's SD1100 for most of the day when I realized my camera was dying.

William Sullivan calls this Crossover Falls, but it doesn't actually have a name, which is ridiculous considering that it's a damn sight more interesting than some of the other falls in the Gorge.

We hiked this last year, but a bit later in the summer: this is as green as I've ever seen Oregon, and after spending so much time in the desert I couldn't quite believe it was real.

I got some music from The Hobbit stuck in my head at this point, it was actually quite fitting.
